Tremont Institute is seeking a Development Manager to further its mission of connecting people and nature in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. 

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the CEO, the Development Manager will manage and execute a comprehensive development strategy for Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. The Development Manager will implement ongoing fundraising efforts and capital campaigns to ensure short-term revenue goals are met as well as a long-term sustainable development program.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned by supervisor.

● Strategic Planning: Implements a Development Plan including annual and multi-year development strategies. Works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors and partner organizations to execute the fundraising strategy in order to significantly grow annual revenues in the short-term, while diversifying the funding base towards long-term sustainability and building the endowment. Implements a written plan to identify, educate, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors. Maintain a master fundraising calendar to maximize opportunities and ensure the progression of goals as stated.
● Fundraising Targets and Portfolio Management: Accountable for achieving or exceeding minimum fundraising targets, maintaining a portfolio of donors and prospects, and personally making face-to-face donor solicitations. Grows and executes a grant portfolio to generate revenue. Manages annual giving, direct mail, and other revenue generating campaigns.
● Relationship Development: At the direction of the CEO, serves as staff liaison for representatives of foundations and corporations for solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship purposes. Collaborates with the National Park and partner organizations to identify and maximize fundraising opportunities. Serves as staff liaison for the Board’s philanthropy committee(s). Orients new Board members to their fundraising responsibilities and ensures they receive the support they need to be successful volunteer fundraisers. Oversee acknowledgement of all gifts and pledges, both monetary and in-kind an preparation of pledge payment reminders and pledge agreements.
● Special Events: Oversees implementation of major fundraising special events such as Homecoming. Maintains events calendar, plans, schedules and executes events in conjunction with key volunteers, staff, vendors, etc. Solicits in-kind goods and services, schedules and documents post event debriefings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is desirable. Minimum of 5 yrs. fundraising experience.
● Established track record of increasing philanthropic revenue from diverse constituencies.
● Established record of identifying, writing, and winning grants.
● Experience in the development and implementation of a broad-based fundraising program including major gift acquisition and planned giving.
● Significant expertise with the region’s funding community is highly desirable.
● Experience with a Capital Campaign is desirable.
● Knowledge of “best practices” in development.
● Knowledge about Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a passion for our mission of connecting people and nature.
● Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed for events, meetings, etc.
