of Atlanta Road, Cumberland Parkway and East-West Connector in Smyrna, Georgia. We serve approximately 500 students in grades Preschool through 8th. This position will be either full or part time depending on candidate selected.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:    

The Director of Development works closely with the Head of School and leadership team to oversee and manage all aspects of St. Benedict’s Development program. The Director of Development must be able to think strategically and practically to implement a comprehensive and results-oriented development plan that includes traditional and innovative strategies. Key components of this plan should include strategies, goals and timetables for the annual fund (“The Acorn Fund”), pending capital campaign, alumni giving, and should include a complementary focus on prospecting and tactics to build key relationships with alumni, families, community and foundation leaders. This Director of Development position reports to the Head of School and is a key member of the Leadership Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements a short and long-term Development plan to meet established development goals and objectives tied to the school’s strategic plan. This includes, but is not limited to, strategic initiatives for securing annual funds, grants, and implementing an alumni giving program, defining prospecting tactics, enhancing special fundraising/cultivation events, and developing new approaches to supporting traditional Development initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer on establishing development monetary goals in conjunction with the creation of the annual budget.
  • Works collaboratively and creatively with the Communications Director to appropriately position development opportunities and integrate messages in publications, grant submissions, reports, and collateral materials for cultivating and stewarding donors.
  • Works collaboratively with Parent Association leadership and key constituents including alumni, grandparents, parents, friends, and community members through cultivation efforts.
  • Provides leadership for the parent volunteers on the Acorn Fund Committee resulting in an annual plan for the school’s Acorn Fund.
  • Clearly articulates and promotes a strong case of need for philanthropy and builds opportunities to create and sustain a culture that understands the relationship between philanthropy and a unique quality, St. Benedict’s education.
  • Cultivates relationships with foundations that lead to grant making to St. Benedict’s Episcopal School at increasing levels.
  • Oversees management of gift processing and donor acknowledgement, the donor database, and financial reporting.
  • Manages prospect research and cultivation initiatives with a special emphasis on pursuing strategies to secure or increase giving from donors.
  • Develops strategies for existing donors to effectively move them through a meaningful cycle of giving.
  • Meets regularly with the Head of School regarding program goals and initiatives.
  • Attends St. Benedict’s events and activities and fosters significant pride and excitement for fundraising efforts.
  • Manages relationship with the capital campaign consultant.
  • Oversees the launch and execution of a comprehensive, multi-year capital campaign.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of increasing responsibility in non-profit administration, management and/or fundraising, preferably within an independent school.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or other related fields.
  • Excellent managerial skills.
  • Strong administrative and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership that embodies the St. Benedict’s mission, and exemplifies a collaborative, decisive, motivating and engaging communication style.
  • Proven track record of fundraising success, particularly by securing major gifts, successfully managing campaigns, and engaging a community of motivated supporters.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex environment.
  • Working knowledge of development best practices, trends in (independent school) education and development, fundraising tools and technology, including donor databases, e-mail and online campaigns, and donor research.
  • Extreme tact and discretion, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Deep appreciation and understanding of the School’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally.
  • Strong networking skills with knowledge about the independent school marketplace and environment.
