About AmeriCorps VISTA:
The AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) program places passionate individuals in a year-long, full-time position to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational capacity of organizations that improve health and educational services, reduce food insecurity, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities. AmeriCorps VISTAs are full-time, year-long volunteers and are compensated with a small living allowance (less than $1,000/month), health care benefits, a relocation allowance, and an end-of-term education grant or stipend. Service Description: Prenatal Education Program HMHB works with partner agencies statewide to provide evidence-informed prenatal education to women and families in Georgia. We provide a 2-hour, brief-intervention format workshop that highlights information most pertinent to address Georgia’s worst maternal and infant health outcomes. Three follow-up calls are conducted with each consenting participant to gauge the impact of the workshop and provide ongoing support and resources to program participants. Building Perinatal Support Professionals Project Training program launching in January of 2018 to support women toward becoming certified Childbirth Educators and Doulas. The program provides both scholarships for the training program and supplemental mentorship and professional development opportunities.

-Coordinate new prenatal education partnerships in the Savannah, Albany, Macon, and Columbus Perinatal Regions through outreach and coalition building

-Assist Program Coordinator in scheduling prenatal workshops across the State and ensuring proper data collection and submission following the workshop 

-Create prenatal and postpartum resource tools and referral guides to disseminate across the State

-Track Building Perinatal Support Professionals (BPSP) project cohort members toward successful completion of the program

-Update Breastfeeding Friendly map by identifying businesses across Georgia committed to supporting breastfeeding for staff and customers
