Women Deliver is a leading global advocate that champions gender equality and the health and rights of girls and women. Our advocacy drives investment–political and financial –in the lives of girls and women worldwide. We harness evidence and unite diverse voices to spark commitment to gender equality. And we get results. Anchored in sexual and reproductive health, we advocate for the rights of girls and women across every aspect of their lives. We know that investing in girls and women will deliver progress for all.

In all we do, we celebrate the power of young people, equipping them to deliver large-scale change. The Women Deliver Young Leaders Program connects outstanding youth advocates with the skills, resources, people, and platforms to advance gender equality in their communities, countries, and around the world. In addition to walking the talk on meaningful youth engagement, Women Deliver advocates for a world where young people are actively engaged in the decisions that affect their lives.

Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking a writer to produce a brief, roughly four-page position paper on meaningful youth engagement—a cornerstone of our model. This succinct piece should make note of the core elements of meaningful youth engagement, however focus on providing concrete evidence and examples of how diverse participation and perspectives (from both youth engagement and intergenerational collaboration) can benefit development processes and initiatives at the global, national and sub-national level.

The goal is for the position paper to make the case for enhanced diversity as an effective approach to ensuring development programs and advocacy initiatives are more inclusive of, and more effectively beneficial to, the people they impact the most.

The paper will be launched at the Women Deliver 2019 Conference (WD2019) in Vancouver, Canada, the world’s largest conference on gender equality, such that the audience for this paper is a diverse audience of advocates, funders, decision takers, and movement makers in the gender equality space.

Scope of Work and Expected Deliverables

Work will be conducted remotely; regular communication with the Women Deliver project manager will be conducted by phone and video conference. The consultancy is structured around the following milestone deliverables:
Conduct Desk Review on Meaningful Youth Engagement - March 13
This will include reviewing sources from a variety of sectors and regions then presenting the breadth of research on the topic, particularly on engaging youth.
Develop Outline for the Position Paper - March 27
The writer will distill a key argument from the research, and develop an outline for a position paper that links this argument to Women Deliver’s work on meaningful youth engagement.
Create Draft for Position Paper - April 10
Draft a position paper which focuses on a central argument or theme, uses accessible and compelling language, incorporates stories and examples, to build the case for meaningful youth engagement, and makes one succinct call to action. The draft, once submitted, will go through two to three rounds of revision internally to ensure alignment. The writer will be responsible for collecting feedback and incorporating that feedback into revisions.
Submit Final Position Paper - May 1
The final paper will be written for a broad audience of advocates and practitioners. Once submitted, the paper will be designed by Women Deliver and launched at WD2019.
