Position Summary

The Grants Manager works closely with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and other departments as needed to ensure the integrity and professional management of all grants and sponsorships.  Responsibilities include a major emphasis on writing with additional oversight of all facets of granting including researching funding opportunities, meeting submission deadlines, fulfillment and compliance, monitoring funds and reporting.  She/he will develop and manage a robust proposal and grant reporting schedules, renew existing grant partnerships, identify viable corporate and foundation prospects and meet all required deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Raises $1 million annually through grants and sponsorships.
  • Manages a robust proposal and reporting schedule to ensure all required deadlines are met.
  • Writes authentic, engaging, donor-centric proposals that strategically align Museum programs and projects with the goals of the funder.
  • Monitors outcomes and tracks data needed for grant reports.
  • Creates engaging reports that highlights program outcomes and successes.
  • Fulfills all stated benefits outlined in sponsor agreements.
  • Establishes strong alliances with Education and Marketing Departments to ensure a transparent process throughout the life cycle of the grant, from proposal submission to close.

Requirements

  • At least two to three years of non-profit experience with a proven track record administering grants/sponsorships from start to finish.  This includes grant writing and online grant application submissions, proposal development, grant reporting and sponsor fulfillment.
  • Experience with Altru, Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Ability to review and understand financial documents including departmental budgets, institutional operating statements and audited financial statements.
  • Ability to research statistics and collect data to effectively demonstrate need.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and facilitating positive two-way communication across departments.
  • Flexible, organized and can function in a strenuous work environment with multiple, competing projects that have stated deadlines.
  • A strong interest in science, natural history topics and/or museums.
