The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences is seeking a Development Director to help grow their creative residency program and related arts, environmental, culinary and travel initiatives.

The Development Director will work to develop and execute an annual and long-term fundraising strategy in line with the organization’s Strategic Plan to include the annual campaign, cultivation of major gifts, grant opportunities, corporate marketing sponsorships and stewardship of current donors. In addition, the organization is embarking on a capital campaign, which the Development Director will play a key role.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the organization has adequate financial resources to meet its programming and operational needs, and there is a diverse and robust pool of funding sources.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director, and the Development Committee of the Board of Directors, develop and execute an annual development plan with fundraising targets and goals to meet the annual needs of the organization and strategic goals.
  • Research grant opportunities, as well as other funding sources, from both private and government entities and develop written proposals, presentations and required reports.
  • Cultivate new donors annually, securing their support and stewarding them for increases.
  • Oversee the stewardship of current donors, maintaining relationships, in coordination with the Development Committee, Board of Directors, Boards of Advisors and Staff.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a prospect management strategy, which assists lay-leadership in the identification, cultivation and stewardship of donors.
  • Support Board members and staff in their work on the capital campaign. Including pipelines, prospect tracking, strategy, task assignment and maintenance of timelines and oversee all gifts, pledges and prepare pledge payments and agreements.
  • Oversee the planning and management of all cultivation events (Soirees, etc.) as well as the annual Spring Art Auction and Fall Festival.
  • Develop Sponsorship Models for signature fundraising events and ensure sponsor benefit fulfillment.
  • Oversee and manage the gift processing and acknowledgement process through organization’s donor database, Salsa, including data input and development of data entry guidelines and training to staff.
  • Research, recommend, and implement organization development policies in collaboration with the Development Committee.
  • Reconcile and report monthly on fundraising revenue and financially reconcile quarterly and annually with Executive Director.
  • Work closely with Communications Director to develop key fundraising appeals and donor communications (online, webpages, print, media tools, etc.).
  • Serve as the liaison to the Board of Director’s Development Committee and provide reports monthly to the Committee and to the Board of Directors quarterly.
  • Serve as a senior member of the organization’s leadership team providing strategic oversight to all areas of the organization and future plans.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in nonprofit management, marketing/PR or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Track record of soliciting major gifts from existing and new prospects.
  • Success in fundraising to include: annual campaign growth, grant writing, event planning, event corporate sponsorship models, and capital campaigns.
  • At least 4 years of demonstrated experience in grant writing, individual and corporate development and events to meet annual fundraising goals.
  • Proficient in: Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook; accounting software (ex: Quickbooks); CRM databases (ex: Salesforce, Salsa, Raisers Edge, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success in working as a member of a team and developing effective working relationships with Board members, staff, volunteers, the general public and donors.
  • Detail oriented, well organized and exceptional time management skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with ability to juggle several projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, make decisions and solve problems independently and effectively.
  • Knowledge of the Atlanta area philanthropic community a plus.

Physical Demands:    Position requires extended periods of sitting while typing or using computers, and lifting of items of moderate weight (event supplies)

Travel Demands:       Employee must be able to regularly travel throughout metro Atlanta. Regular hours are standard 9 – 5 with occasional evenings and weekends and some travel to the Hambidge campus (Rabun Gap, GA)
