POSITION SUMMARY:

The Directors of the Wardlaw School of the Atlanta Speech School coordinate all services for children enrolled in the Wardlaw School. Two Directors serve the Wardlaw School and each is responsible for the direct supervision of staff and students assigned to the Wardlaw School. The Lower School Director oversees programming for children in Kindergarten through Second grade and supervises classroom teachers in those levels, as well as the Speech-Language Pathologists assigned to the Wardlaw School. The Upper School Director oversees the Third through Six grade and supervises both the classroom teachers working in those levels and the Reading Teachers assigned to the Wardlaw School. Each Director supervises one Assistant Teacher. Directors report to the Chief Academic Officer and represents the Wardlaw School on the Leadership Team which is made up of all School and Program Directors, the Chief Academic Officer, and the Executive Director of the Atlanta Speech School.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Programmatic Responsibilities in Conjunction with the Chief Academic Officer
  • Develop goals, direction, and policies of the program
  • Develop and implement criteria for admissions, placement, and dismissal
  • Serve on the Admissions Committee
  • Conduct ongoing program evaluation and identification of needs
  • Plan parent and staff education programs
  • Participate in budget review and manage funds allocated to the Wardlaw School
  • Recruit and interview prospective employees and make recommendations to the Chief Academic Officer
  1. Responsibilities to Parents
  • Conduct orientation and parent education meetings
  • Be available for parent contacts, conferences, and calls
  • Have written communication with parents regarding departmental guidelines/policies, schedules, and procedures
  • Assist with the development and review of individual goals for children
  • Oversee review of student records and selection of materials released to other agencies
  • Collaborate with outside professionals on behalf of individual children
  • Maintain relationships with other schools and professionals serving the children in the Wardlaw School
  1. Responsibilities to the Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with other Directors within the school to establish best practices and provide best services
  1. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  •  In-depth knowledge in the field of learning disabilities in preschool and school-aged children, including oral language problems is required
  • Full understanding of the language to literacy developmental process required
  • Teaching and supervisory experience beyond the Master’s Degree is desirable
  • Applicants should be eligible for Georgia Certification and/or licensure in the state of Georgia and should hold a valid Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association
  • Individuals should participate in appropriate professional organizations

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with experience.
