Membership and Marketing Manager
American Sociological Association
The American Sociological Association (ASA) invites applications for a Membership and Marketing Manager. This position is responsible for managing the implementation of the association’s activities related to membership recruitment and retention. The position provides the opportunity to combine creativity and innovation in outreach and member services with robust database management and analytics.
ASA has a membership of almost 12,000 sociologists who are scholars, teachers, and practitioners. Its mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a discipline and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. Among many other activities, ASA publishes 14 journals and offers a large annual meeting. ASA’s office is in Washington, D.C.
Essential Functions:
- Support strategic planning around membership marketing, outreach, and membership value/benefits packages
- Work closely with the Deputy Director, communications team, and other key staff to develop and produce member recruitment, retention and reclamation campaigns
- Manage all routine membership join and renewal processes
- Manage the membership database/association management system (NOAH) on a daily basis to ensure accurate and secure data
- Collect, track, analyze and report membership data
- Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure integrated service and value to members
- Respond to requests for information and assistance from current and potential members via phone and email
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Director
Reporting Structure: The Membership and Marketing Manager reports to the Deputy Director.
Job Classification: Exempt

- Bachelor’s degree
- At least five years of relevant professional experience or equivalent
- Experience with database software, preferably AMS experience
- Knowledge of best practices in association membership management and marketing
- Exemplary writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; strong analytical reasoning ability; good attention to detail
- Strong work ethic; ability to respond quickly to time-sensitive requests from members
- Maturity and organizational savvy; ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams; excellent interpersonal skills
- Some familiarity with the higher education sector and social science
- Ability to travel to the annual meeting for one week in August
Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. A full benefits package is provided to all ASA staff members.
