Description & Responsibilities

This position will join Ceres’ growing Communications and Development Department and will be responsible for is responsible for stewarding, executing, and expanding key functions and strategies that enhance Ceres’ mission, visibility, and revenue growth.  Based in Ceres’ Boston office, the Marketing Manager, Communications and Marketing will develop marketing and donor stewardship content and collateral, including impact stories, organizational brochures and signature program marketing materials. Reporting to the Director of Digital Communications and Marketing, the Marketing Manager will be embedded in the digital communications and marketing team and will work closely with the development team to integrate traditional marketing activities with digital activities across the organization. In 2019, the Marketing Manager will be a key player in planning and executing marketing strategies and materials to highlight Ceres’ 30th anniversary. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Content Development:

  • Develop marketing content and collateral, and donor stewardship communications
  • Provide project management and writing support for print and digital marketing and fundraising materials including the Ceres Annual Report, donor newsletters, and stewardship of Ceres 1000 donor circle.
  • Develop messaging and compelling email communications to Ceres’ digital community.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new activities and processes to steward and manage marketing and fundraising projects.
  • Improve visual and design elements of all marketing and fundraising materials and communications.
  • Support planning and execution of Ceres 30th anniversary marketing materials.

Marketing and Digital Communications

  • Work with digital team to regularly update website pages to maximize visitor experience, with a particular focus on highly trafficked pages.
  • Work with the digital team to help maximize the philanthropic potential of Ceres’ digital community, and develop a plan to transfer printed products to the website.
  • Work closely with graphic designers to format and design marketing materials in line with Ceres brand and logo standards, and work with the digital team as needed to transfer materials to a digital audience.
  • Assist efforts to build the digital community (website, eCommunity, social, etc.) where appropriate by exploring, vetting and helping to support and implement new strategies and tactics to aid list growth and website traffic.
  • Provide input on the master website, eCommunity, and social schedule that is maintained by the digital marketing team.

Development and Fundraising Communications

  • Serve as liaison to development team on marketing activities, ensuring alignment of print appeal and digital marketing cycles, including email communications and collateral development.
  • Assist a cross-cutting team in expanding and improving overall internal communications capacity and materials for funders, the Ceres leadership bodies, Ceres Network members, and staff.
  • Develop “elevator pitch” slide deck presentations for Ceres staff, board and funder meetings, and more.
  • Support marketing and fundraising activities to demonstrate impact of Ceres’ initiatives including Climate Action 100+, Commit to Climate, and others.

Other

  • Coordinate with cross-cutting and programmatic teams on marketing support as needed to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging and materials.
  • Manage specific marketing-related activities, as needed, for major Ceres events such as the annual Ceres Conference and the Investor Summit on Climate Risk, and fundraising dinners and galas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree, preferred, or equivalent full-time job experience. 
  • Five years or more of marketing experience, preferably for a mission-driven organization.
  • Experience and savvy with effective visual presentation of complex material.
  • Experience with traditional and digital marketing strategies used to acquire and steward donors.
  • Successful record of organizing and managing multiple projects, delivering on time, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal and communications skills, strong initiative and motivation.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong writing skills for traditional and digital audiences.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint presentations.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-starter focused on execution.
  • Knowledge of the sustainability space desirable.
