Job Details

Alpha Delta Pi Foundation and Alpha Omicron Pi Foundation are conducting a search for a shared Major Gifts Officer.  The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Executive Directors of both Foundations. This contract position will be responsible for organizing and managing a major gifts portfolio for each organization centered on the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects at the $15,000+ level. The position will also be responsible for soliciting six and seven figure gifts and for establishing strategies to educate donors about giving opportunities (including planned gifts) and to increase the number of these commitments.  Specific duties include: 

  • Design and implement a donor-centered plan for increasing major unrestricted and restricted gifts for each Foundation. 
  • Develop detailed strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual donors. 
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan of action with objectives, timelines, and evaluation plans for expanding major gift programs for each organization.
  • Develop appropriate solicitation and briefing materials, including personalized solicitation letters and tailored proposals.
  • Participate in face-to-face solicitations and gift negotiations.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of both Foundations and their volunteers to develop and deploy a strategic approach to increasing revenue from planned giving.
  • Attend evening and weekend events and activities, as required.

Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience and performance in major gift fund-raising.   Proven personal track record in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors. Personal solicitation of six and seven figure gifts from individual donors strongly preferred. Some familiarity with planned giving vehicles.  Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the six-figure range with specific tasks to include:

  • Manage a portfolio of primary prospects.
  • Manage prospect activity.
  • Overnight travel as necessary.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    - Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors.
    - Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers.
    - Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and    closure.
    - Make solicitations when appropriate.
    - Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
  • Ability to interact effectively with administrators and volunteers, as well as the capacity to imagine and to inspire.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Ability to generate excitement and commitment for each Foundation.
  • Computer proficient. Hands-on understanding and experience with donor databases and screening tools.

Membership in a Greek sorority or fraternity is a plus.  This position requires extensive travel and access to a major airport is essential. The Major Gifts Officer position is full-time.  Compensation commensurate with experience.
