Director of School Based Initiatives 

Reports To: VP of Programs 

Location: Atlanta, GA

KEY ROLE

The Director provides the overall leadership, direction, and vision for GCAPP’s School-Based Initiatives (SBI) as part of our Expansion Plan which includes our K-12 school based-sex education, University and College based work, and our nutrition and physical activity programs with new and existing partners. He/she will work with Program Leads to develop strategies for institutionalizing and scaling up GCAPP’s School-Based initiatives around the state.  This individual will also provide support to the development and implementation of GCAPP’s fee-for-service training. He/she will work very closely with GCAPP’s Training Manager to coordinate and provide staff support for Training and Technical assistance to partners. This position will work in collaboration with the GCAPP program team and local partner organizations to develop implementation strategies, manage evaluations, and other activities essential to successful results.   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program / Project Management

  • Oversees the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of GCAPP’s School Based Initiatives [e.g. including PEER UP/College Strategy, Youth Advisory Council, WISE, Power Moves, the Pre-Service Teacher Training]
  • Work with Program Manager and Training Manager to coordinate and provide trainings and technical assistance to GCAPP partners [e.g. school-based, fee for service, etc.]
  • Lead planning effort to create a web-based infrastructure in Georgia for school-based partners to increase educators’ and partners’ access to curricula, tools, and best practices
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert by staying current on research, trends, and best practices in school-based programs/implementation – additional key SME topics may include teen pregnancy prevention, comprehensive sex ed, nutrition and physical activity, youth empowerment, parent engagement, healthy relationships, sexual violence prevention and working with school-based partners (e.g. K-12, College & University level)
  • Provides technical assistance on a variety of topics including science-based sex education and teen pregnancy prevention, nutrition, and other public health programs, effective facilitation methodology, etc.
  • Identify opportunities to promote all GCAPP programs and trainings
  • Participate in meetings/phone calls with grantees/grantors and other partners
  • Provide support to the development and refinement of GCAPP’s fee-for-serving training service
  • Work with Evaluator to oversee project evaluation for process, outcome, impact and leverage measures to assess effectiveness of strategy, implementation and impact
  • Manage all project reporting and disseminate results and lessons learned to national evaluator, funder, local partners, and the fields of sex education, teen pregnancy prevention, nutrition and physical activity, and healthy relationships
  • In partnership with SBI team, develop plan to disseminate Program results and lessons learned to funders, local partners, and the fields of public health, school-based sex education, and teen pregnancy prevention in the form of at least one report, white paper, case study, or peer-reviewed manuscript each year

Strategic Partnerships

  • Develop external partnerships to build public and political will to support GCAPP’s School-based Initiatives including comprehensive sex education, healthy relationships programming, and nutrition and physical activity [i.e. This may include developing and strengthening relationships with organizations such as the Georgia PTA, Family Connections Partnerships, the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Georgia Regents Association, Georgia Department of Education, Department of Juvenile Justice etc.]
  • Work collaboratively with the Public Affairs Consultant to develop and build relationships as part of the Expansion Plan strategy.

Administration

  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and utilizes a high degree of discretion
  • Ensures staff compliance with all corporate policies and procedures
  • Handles and resolves inquiries and/or redirects as appropriate; responds to company- or department- related requests for information
  • Troubleshoots any emerging issues in order to promote smooth and efficient operations.
  • Manage SBI Consultants/Contractors

Strategic Planning Support:

  • Play a lead role in supporting the senior leadership team by providing updates on tracking progress towards SBI strategic plan work, organizational goals, mission and vision. 
  • Promotes GCAPPs mission, vision and culture and leads by example.

Fiscal Management

  • Provide fiscal oversight of SBI grants, contracts and deliverables
  • Manage all (SBI) consultant contracts
  • Manage large grants and contracts, monitor and track monthly and annual budget expenditures

Fundraising/Development Support

  • Collaborate with Sr. Leadership in strategic planning as part of the Organization’s expansion strategy
  • Participate in donor meetings, provide content for grant applications and reports and other duties as requested
  • Create internal processes to manage grant / reporting deliverables
  • Support GCAPP grant writing efforts, strategic planning as needed and other duties as assigned
  • Write and submit quarterly and annual updates on program activities to GCAPP’s Vice President of Programs and Training and funders
  • Provide content related to School Based Initiatives scope of work to Communication/Development and Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships Departments to create and update collaterals, the GCAPP Website, and other resources

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Masters degree in Education, Public Health, Social Work or other related fields
  • Seven to Ten years of experience in program and project management
  • Five to Seven years supervisory experience
  • Experience developing partnerships with youth serving organizations, individual schools, school districts and state or private organizations
  • Creative, self-starter with the ability to organize, effectively establish and meet priorities, program deliverables and follow up on outstanding items
  • Ability to manage large grants and contracts, monitor and track monthly and annual budget expenditures

Desirable

  • Terminal degree (PhD, EdD etc) in Education, Public Health, Social Work or other related fields
  • Educational Leadership experience/Teaching experience or experience working with school districts
  • Certified Health Education Specialist or Sex Educator (Preferred)
  • Project management certification – PMP (preferred)
