ROLE: Senior Advisor
LOCATION: Boston/Remote

BACKGROUND
As Senior Advisor, you will provide critical strategic support and project management to a local education leader who is CEO of a national K12 education nonprofit, leads the Board of a major public sector higher education entity, and teaches at one of the leading universities in the area.  You will formally sit within the local education leader’s nonprofit organization and support the leader’s endeavors across all organizations with which he works.

THE ROLE
As this local education leader’s first-ever Senior Advisor, you will help plan and execute a variety of strategic projects and initiatives and act as his partner and sometimes, his representative.  On a given day, your work may include preparing for and attending a meeting with senior state officials, following up with stakeholders to advance a new policy around equity, and co-writing an op-ed piece on the importance of school autonomy.  You will help both manage the workload associated with efforts such as these and seek ways to add value across all of the leader’s streams of effort.

Through this role, you will have unparalleled access to education organizations and stakeholders across the state and will contribute to improving outcomes for traditionally underserved student populations in Massachusetts and beyond.  This position is flexible in direction and scope, depending on current priorities and opportunities as well as your areas of interest and expertise.

  • Provide key thought partnership to the local education leader
  • Conduct research and analysis and apply findings to various streams of work

Communications (20%)

  • Develop and collaborate on compelling op-ed articles, blog posts, and other writings on the education field
  • Advise on an effective communications strategy, including expanded outreach to opinion leaders, academics, government leaders, and others across the country to advance work and ideas

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong sense of commitment to mission of strengthening and innovating in education to broaden opportunity
  • High quality of work and emotional intelligence to ensure constructive and effective interactions and collaboration across many levels and types of colleagues, allies, and partners
  • Ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Excellent analysis, strategy, and writing skills
  • Highest levels of integrity, reliability, and conscientiousness
  • Track record of success and promotion
  • Exceptional sense of equanimity and humor
  • Willingness to do what it takes to make deadlines or handle quick turnaround when necessary
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Significant experience in education policy and innovation required; significant experience from a consulting firm or in a strategic position at a non-profit institution preferred

THE PERKS
The Senior Advisor position offers an unprecedented opportunity to work directly with and for a well known education leader in a multitude of state, school, and nonprofit contexts and is an ideal venue for the candidate interested in education broadly.  Additionally, the role offers significant flexibility. Depending on the candidate, three-quarter time situations will be considered, and the bulk of the work can be completed remotely--although some amount of in-person time in downtown Boston is critical.  Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and non-profit/government context.
