About the Position:

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action (CPD/CPDA) is seeking a full-time Marketing and Grants Writer who will be a key part of the Development team ensuring that CPD is marketing its work in the best possible way, attracting new donors and stewarding existing ones, and helping to create fundraising campaigns around resonant issues and storytelling.  This position also works closely with our Communications staff, ensuring that CPD and CPDA messaging is complimentary, and with our program teams to translate their work as needed into messaging that resonates with donors, and into formal proposals and reports. The Marketing and Grants Writer will also play a significant role in general prospect research for individuals and foundations. The candidate will be able to work across diverse teams and workstyles, care deeply about the mission, and learn quickly.  This is a newly-created position, and we are looking for someone who is eager to jump in, learn quickly, and take initiative, as well as an excellent writer and team player.  

Primary Responsibilities

The Marketing and Grants Writer will:

  • Be the primary writer of CPD marketing materials, including emails, general brochures and presentations and annual report; be the primary copy editor of website text and specific campaign materials that aim to raise awareness and funding;

  • Work with program staff to write and edit grant applications, and to do reporting on existing grants;

  • Do prospect research on foundations and individuals and around specific funding opportunities, including prizes;

  • Draft speeches for events;

  • Work closely with interested program and development staff on best ways to message their work;

  • Be a key member of the development staff - pitching in on ideas, special projects, events, and other responsibilities as needed.  

Job Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Possess at least 3 years of writing and marketing experience within the context of development, and have strong research abilities;

  • Have a strong interest in progressive issues;

  • Work effectively on a tight schedule and be able to set and meet realistic deadlines;

  • Have excellent interpersonal communication skills;

  • Be highly professional, a team player, and a self-starter with extremely strong organizational skills and attention to detail;

  • Show a passion for excellence and eagerness to help the department meet our goals;

  • Possess the ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and perform assigned duties with modest supervision in a fast-paced environment;

  • Demonstrate skill  at working across multiple infrastructure and programmatic teams, with staff spread across the country, to meet goals;

  • Have a sense of humor and ability to work under pressure required;

  • Ideally, have experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment;

  • Possess a commitment to racial equity, social justice, and community organizing and see how development work is a core piece of furthering this mission-driven work.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 12 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.
