The San Mateo County Human Services Agency, County Veterans Services Office (CVSO) is looking for a qualified Veteran Outreach Worker (Public Services Specialist) - Extra Help.

Under general supervision, the Veteran Outreach Worker - Extra Help will provide outreach and administrative support to the County Veterans Services Office, which serves military veterans and their dependents who visit or call the Veterans Services office. The Veteran Outreach Worker will routinely visit community centers throughout the county where US military veterans may gather to inform of Veteran Administration and California Department of Veterans Affairs benefits. Additionally, when at the office, the individual will greet and register clients, create the client profile in our systems, perform data entry, reports and issue County Veteran ID cards, provide office support to CVSO and Veterans Commission meetings, and represent the office at outreach events. Local travel is required, and the Public Services Specialist will be expected to work occasional evenings and possibly weekend events, with advanced notice.

They also assist veterans in obtaining benefits related to vocational rehabilitation, VA home loans, education, insurance, burial benefits and non-service connected pension benefits. A key role of the CVSO is to interview, assess and understand the needs of veterans seeking services and facilitate referrals for community services (employment, behavioral health and recovery, housing, and support services) as needed.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
