SUMMARY

Lifecycle Building Center (LBC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to converting discarded building materials into community wealth and opportunity. We believe that tapping into this resource makes communities stronger and healthier by creating highly impactful jobs, huge economic benefits and a more sustainable environment. We operate a 70,000 square-foot warehouse in Southwest Atlanta where the general public can purchase reclaimed materials for as much as 85% or more off retail prices. Nonprofits are also encouraged to apply for building material donations through our Nonprofit Material MATCH program. We provide free material pickup services throughout Metro Atlanta and have a dedicated team of deconstruction specialists who remove usable building materials from residential and commercial projects. Free Home Performance and DIY classes are also available for those seeking to improve the efficiency, health and durability of their home or who simply want to learn how to safely use power tools and hand tools to build small projects or install fixtures and materials themselves.

The Development Manager is responsible for the strategic management and execution of fundraising activities for LBC. This is a critical and transformative administrative position that will support LBC’s development team in order to significantly scale the organization. We work as a nimble, close-knit team to pull off the seemingly impossible in terms of impact through our commitment to professionalism and community service. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Development Manager will plan and implement annual fundraising, corporate fundraising, grant writing, donor stewardship, and special events.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Revenue Generation. Make direct solicitations to donors to generate gifts and will be held accountable to those numbers of direct asks and their outcomes.
  • Manage sponsorship revenue. Work closely with LBC’s board, advisory board and staff across all departments to develop sponsors and donors as active participants in the LBC’s programs and activities. Lead benefit fulfillment for sponsors and donors, including handling customer service related issues. Grow the overall number of sponsors and donors to target defined in annual development plan.
  • Manage grants and foundations. Research grant and foundation opportunities. Develop and manage a grant response calendar. Execute proposal development process. Assist Executive Director to cultivate and engage in relationships with key contacts in grant-making foundations. Engage in proposal writing and submittals. Manage grant reporting. Grow the revenue received from foundation and grant support by target defined in annual development plan.
  • Manage individual donor stewardship. Contact constituents and prospective constituents in person, by phone and email. Assist with development-related communications and correspondence. Develop new strategies for increasing giving and acquiring new sponsors and donors. Report on appeals and campaign activity. Acknowledge gifts in a timely manner.
  • Manage the donor database. This includes maintaining database with clean-up and updates for constituent records; importing new constituent records; and running queries for mailings including: new sponsor/donor mailings, renewals and appeals.
  • Act as a community ambassador for LBC. Represent LBC at industry events. Attend professional development opportunities locally and occasionally nationally (e.g. Georgia Center for Nonprofits training events, Association of Fundraising Professionals events, etc.).
  • Participate in event preparation and management. Work with Executive Director to plan and implement two major fundraising events annually. Coordinate events with an eye to fundraising and donor engagement experiences. Recruit and coordinate volunteers as needed. Manage all event communications and sponsor solicitations. Manage requests for in-kind donations, and other logistical coordination.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement an annual fundraising strategy and plan. Create and maintain appropriate systems to drive development including, but not limited to, research and cultivation, gift processing, investor management and recognition. Coordinate and ensure the implementation of all development strategies. Develop, submit, manage and operate within budget for fundraising and communication activities.
  • Reporting. Provide regular development reports to Executive Director.  Prepare regular reports of grant seeking work, after the initial pipeline research and calendar has been established.

     

Qualifications

  • A passion for and willingness to learn about sustainability, green building practices, deconstruction and building material reuse.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are a must! This position will need to interact effectively with LBC leadership, staff, prospects and donors. This individual should be adept at building relationships. They will need to have the ability to communicate effectively in person, on the telephone, and in writing with leadership, staff, board of directors, and donors.
  • Strong writing skills. The ability to compose correspondence with accuracy, clarity and attention to detail is critical as this position is responsible for crafting donor correspondence and grant requests on behalf of the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with attention to detail, ability to multi-task and work under pressure.   
  • A history in development is not required, however some knowledge of the following will be helpful: fundraising ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, direct mail, and development office functions including gift processing, prospect tracking, donor histories, and fundraising reporting.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Customer service-oriented with a high level of confidence in communicating with diverse constituencies.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with at least 3 years of experience in a professional setting.
  • Must have experience in the use of software programs such as Google Drive, Mailchimp, Dropbox, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Familiarity with Salesforce preferred.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The Development Associate position is a full-time and salaried position. The salary range for this position is from $38,000 to $44,000, commensurate with experience. Additionally, this role may qualify for performance bonuses based on meeting or exceeding fundraising goals across all segments: corporate, individuals, and grants.

This position does require working on site with the team, however there is flexibility in scheduling. Based on candidate qualifications, there may be opportunity for working remotely for at least one day per week.

INSURANCE: LBC offers this position participation in our group healthcare coverage. 1/2 of the monthly premium for employee-only is covered by LBC. The employee is eligible for enrollment the first of the month following 30 days of employment.PAID HOLIDAYS: LBC offers 6 paid holidays per year. These are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

PAID TIME OFF (PTO): Position is eligible for 15 days paid time off within the first full year of employment (prorated amounts may apply for partial service).

RETIREMENT SAVINGS: LBC offers a simple IRA plan for employee contribution. LBC will match up to the first 3% of the employee’s contribution. Eligibility begins after 60 days of employment.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Paid membership to the Association of Fundraising Professionals and paid continuing education courses relevant to position through the Georgia Center for Nonprofits.
