Chief Executive

Hospicare & Palliative Care Services, located in the culturally diverse and scenic Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, seeks a dynamic Executive Director to lead our highly regarded agency.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide strong leadership and vision to a respected and vibrant community agency that brings medical expertise and compassionate, respectful care to those dealing with any stage of a life-threatening illness. Hospicare provides information and education about advanced illness, dying, and bereavement to the entire communities of Tompkins (pop. 100,000) and Cortland (pop. 50,000) counties.

Our region is renowned for its stunningly beautiful environment and some of the finest educational institutions in the country including Cornell University, Ithaca College, State University of New York at Cortland, and Tompkins Cortland Community College.

We serve more than 500 patients and their families annually through hospice, palliative care and bereavement services in the patients’ homes, in our 6-bed residential facility in Ithaca, and in partnering acute care hospitals and extended care facilities in the area. The agency has a $4.8 million operating budget, 60 FTE employees, and 800 volunteers.

Our programs include medical, emotional, spiritual and logistical support for people dealing with end of life issues. Music therapy has been integrated into program services since 2006. Bereavement services are offered to anyone in the community at no charge for up to 13 months after the death of the patient.

The Executive Director will work alongside a deeply committed staff, an engaged board, a passionate donor community, and a deep volunteer network as we define the organization’s future direction in a time of significant change. 

Candidates must have strong communication skills; promote an internal culture of collaboration, teamwork and open and honest communication; possess financial and business expertise; and show proven success in community outreach and fundraising/development.
