Offering a life-altering array of services no other agency provides in Greater Phoenix’s East Valley, Save the Family Foundation of Arizona has been a vital and dedicated community resource for 30 years, helping families navigate the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.  Serving more than 700 families annually, the majority single mothers with children – Save the Family is enthusiastically committed to its mission to “equip families to address poverty, overcome homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency.”

Basic Function

The Chief Development Officer works closely with the CEO and members of the Board of Directors to plan, execute, and manage a comprehensive fundraising operation for Save the Family.  Strategies and activities include special events, third-party events, annual fund/direct response, leadership annual giving, major gifts, sponsorships, private grants, planned giving, and special campaigns from individuals, foundations, corporations, faith-based organizations, government entities, and other organizations.  This position also oversees development operations, services, and staff, including prospect and donor tracking and management and donor stewardship; maintains its own portfolio of high-potential prospects and donors; and supports the CEO and Board of Directors in their fundraising activity.

Main Responsibilities Include

  • Development and execution of strategic and annual fundraising plans, including establishment of fundraising priorities, goals, calendars, budgets and projections; communications strategy and case for support (in conjunction with appropriate departments)
  • Manage the donor/prospect tracking and relationship management process
  • Direct all fundraising strategies as outlined above
  • Develop and maintain systems for evaluating and reporting on fundraising activities, goals, and objectives
  • Manage execution of the Board’s fundraising activities/contributions; serve as staff officer to Board Governance and Development Committees
  • Manage CEO’s prospect and donor portfolio and preparedness
  • Manage and advance his/her own portfolio of prospects and donors
  • Actively supervise all aspects of the fundraising operation and infrastructure, including policy and procedure development and implementation
  • Represent Save the Family to individuals and faith-based, community, and related organizations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Personal commitment to the mission of Save the Family
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in a similar role; proven track record of consistently meeting annual fundraising goals and securing six- to seven-figure major gifts
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, supervisory, and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising databases and software
  • Ability to attain a fingerprint clearance card
  • Possess a clean 39-month driving record
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed
