POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the supervision of the Senior Minister, the Chief of Staff of First Congregational Church, UCC, oversees the proper functioning of all administrative departments and activities of FCC including clerical, financial, building operations and volunteers. The COS implements policies as set forth by the FCC Church Council and develops procedures as determined by the Senior Minister.


Candidate Must Have a Bachelor’s Degree and Possess Knowledge of

  • Federal, State and local laws related to Human Resources,
    employment and hiring
  • At least four years of supervisory experience
  • Microsoft Office suite of products including the ability to create spreadsheets, graphs and charts
  • Some knowledge of basic bookkeeping
  • Basic Project Management

  • Support the mission and ministries of First Congregational Church
  • Able to lift 25-50 pounds; stand on feet for long periods of time


  1. Plan and direct the Staff’s activities to achieve the Senior Leadership’s goals for quality, organization, culture and values
  2. Manage calendar, screen calls, prepare reports, and make all travel, meeting and event arrangements for Senior Minister
  3. Serve as Special Events Coordinator for all internal and external events held at FCC—this includes managing logistics, expenses and revenue, and scheduling and managing event personnel
  4. Provide day-to-day management and development of all subordinate staff
  5. Manage relationships with all community partners, especially tenants of FCC facility—includes managing lease terms, collecting rent, and coordinating facility use schedule and calendar
  6. Maintain personnel folder for each staff member
  7. Maintain membership data base and Church records
  8. Manage and control administrative expenditures within designated budget
  9. Maintain FCC’s electronic Activities Calendar
  10. Attend and participate in some Church Council, Board of Trustees, Personnel Committee and Congregational meetings which traditionally take place after 6:00 pm weeknights or on Saturdays.
  11. Oversee and/or establish financial management policies for the church office and FCC boards and organizations
  12. Collaborate with FCC Personnel Committee to plan, develop and implement personnel policies (including, but not limited to, recruitment and selection policies, discipline, grievance, counseling, pay, training and development, morale and motivation, culture and attitudinal development, performance appraisals and quality management issues)

REPORTS TO:  Senior Minister

TERM:  This is a full time position with an average workweek of 40 hours. The first 120 days of employment is considered Probationary and at the end of which the candidate’s performance will be assessed and must be considered suitable before being designated a Regular employee.

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Financial - $30,000.00 - $40,000.00/annually
