This is an outstanding opportunity for a new or experienced fundraiser who is passionate about children, youth, and public education.   The Foundation is in its ‘start-up phase’ and needs an individual with strong entrepreneurial abilities who is a self-starter and can work independently.  One to three years of nonprofit or fundraising experience preferred.

The Foundation was established in 2015 by community leaders and the Lynwood Unified School District to develop fundraising programs for its educational programs, college scholarships, and student and family services.  The Foundation and the District collaborate on all of the Foundation’s fundraising programs, and the Foundation Manager plays a central role in coordinating this important partnership.  The Lynwood Unified School District is one of the largest and most improved school districts in the county and the state, serving nearly 15,000 students at 19 schools; 12 elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, and one adult school. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Foundation Manager is responsible for the management of the Foundation’s fundraising programs, as well as management of the board, advisory board, volunteer and communications.   In each of these areas, the Foundation Manager works cooperatively and collaboratively with Foundation board members, the Superintendent, school district staff and administrators, parents, students, and local civic, business, and community leaders. 

Fundraising

The Foundation’s fundraising programs include an employee giving campaign, foundation and corporate grants, special events, and major gifts.  The Foundation Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing these fundraising programs.  The Foundation Manager establishes and cultivates relationships with existing and prospective contributors including foundations, corporations, alumni, parents, local businesses, and civic and community leaders.  The successful candidate will have some fundraising experience and be completely comfortable asking others for financial, in-kind, and other support to help support the District’s educational programs and its students.  Professional development and mentoring will be available to assist the incumbent in enhancing fundraising skills.

Board Management, Advisory Leadership & Volunteers

Board Management:  The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors of up to 19 people, which includes the school district’s Superintendent and a member of its Board of Education.  The Foundation’s Board is responsible for articulating the Foundation’s vision and mission, oversight of its financial activities, setting policy, participating in advocacy and communication, and employment of the Foundation Manager.  The Foundation Manager works closely with the Board of Directors to: 

  • Ensure vision and mission of the Foundation continue to inspire and articulate its work;
  • Establish policies to protect and preserve the Foundation’s reputation and ensure its compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations;
  • Educate and engage board members;
  • Identify and recruit new board members; and,
  • Plan and organize board meetings

Advisory:  For individuals who would like to help the Foundation achieve its fundraising goals but are unable to serve on its Board (i.e. celebrities, elected officials, alumni, and other distinguished leaders) the Foundation has created a special advisory group known as the Superintendent’s Council.   The Foundation Manger helps identify, recruit, and engage this important group of supporters.

Volunteers:  The Foundation Manager also identifies, recruits, and works with volunteers including parents, teachers, alumni, local residents and others to help support fundraising programs and special events. 

Communications

The Foundation Manager is the Foundation’s primary spokesperson and most visible public ambassador interacting with business, civic, and community leaders, donors, parents, alumni, and others.  S/he leverages the voice and influence of Foundation Board members and the Superintendent’s Council to amplify the Foundation’s communication with internal and external audiences.  The Foundation Manager works in close collaboration with the District’s public relations firm to communicate the outstanding achievements of the District, its teachers, students and programs and develop communications resources.

  • Bi-lingual including the ability to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently
  • Ability to provide his/her own clerical and administrative support, including strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship management skills
  • Strong interest in K-12 and adult education and youth development
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively to ensure tasks are completed on time/budget
  • Strong project management skills and ability to multi-task

REPORTS TO

The Foundation Manager reports to the President of the Board of Directors.  On a day-to-day basis, the Foundation Manager’s work is supervised by the Superintendent.

Total compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and potential.
