PEDS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making streets and communities in Georgia safe, inviting, and accessible to all pedestrians. We work with transportation professionals and others to promote funding, building, and maintaining safe sidewalks and street crossings. We provide programs in metro Atlanta, as well as workshops and services benefiting people throughout Georgia. 


The Community Engagement Coordinator will plan and implement workshops and other activities that increase the amount, diversity and effectiveness of grass root advocacy in the Atlanta region. The Coordinator will also help plan and implement training workshops for transportation professionals and others.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify, initiate and deepen relationships with various community stakeholders
  • Attend community meetings and events on behalf of PEDS to hear and better understand community concerns, provide information, and recruit volunteers
  • Help people in selected communities become effective pedestrian safety advocates
  • Plan and implement community meetings, surveys, and events.
  • Help develop and present workshop materials and Participate in Road Safety Audits
  • Recruit and train volunteers and coordinate volunteer activities
  • Implement “Pop-up” activities
  • Implement social media strategy
  • Perform other duties related to the core work of PEDS as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university  required
  • Degree in public administration, urban planning, social work, or public health desired


  • At least one year of experience in community or volunteer engagement, neighborhood associations, and/or grassroots activism
  • Experience with public speaking and making PowerPoint presentations required
  • Fluency with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram


  • Lives in the Atlanta region and is passionate about walking, safety and livable communities
  • Energetic, outgoing, and personable, with outstanding listening, writing and public speaking skills and a confident and engaging presentation style
  • Team player who is responsive to direction and feedback and committed to working collaboratively with all constituent groups
  • Willingness to work occasionally at evening and weekend events
  • Experience using social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Familiarity with neighborhoods in Southwest Atlanta
  • Available to begin work by August 15 
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus
