Director of Marketing and Communications - Job Description

The CHRIS 180 mission is to heal children, strengthen families and build community.  We help children, adults and families who have experienced trauma change the direction of their lives to become more productive, self-sufficient members of the community.  We do this through mental health counseling, training, providing safe housing and real-world skill building

Organization Overview

Since 1981, CHRIS 180 has been dedicated to healing and recovery for children, youth, adults and families and is a growing $18+ million organization with over 250 employees.  CHRIS 180 services include: counseling for the community at large; school-based mental health counseling; homes for abused, neglected foster children with emotional and behavioral problems who are in state custody; supportive housing for single and parenting young people, ages 17 – 24, who are homeless or aging out of foster care; in-home services and community programs that strengthen families; outreach, drop-in and community housing for older teens, young adults and young adult families; a community center; an adoption program for children in foster care; and, training for professionals, human service workers, educators, volunteers, individuals who work within the community, other organizations and children, youth and families.  The goal for all services is to unlock the potential that resides in each person to help them become self sufficient, contributing adults who have the skills to navigate life’s challenges.

Position Description:

The Director of Marketing and Communication’s primary objective is to increase awareness and understanding

CHRIS 180’s mission, programs and partnerships to several key target audiences: donors, clients we serve, referral sources, professional networks and the community in general, and help position CHRIS 180 as THE go-to provider and trainer for youth and families suffering from trauma.  Ultimately, our goal is to serve more people in need, which is accomplished through more people knowing our successful outcomes and providing financial support.

Key areas or responsibility

Reporting to the President  & Chief Executive Officer, this person leads the following areas:

Annual Strategy and Planning – develop and execute an annual organizational marketing plan which articulates key deliverables that align to organizational goals and budget.

 

Brand Development – manage our brand voice, graphic look and feel, and the evolution of our brand as we continue to grow and expand our services and training

 

PR/Earned media – increase exposure by securing CHRIS 180 positive exposure in the community, develop press releases and build relationships with news and other key outlets, and position our executives and program leadership as go-to experts in our arena

 

Digital – manage our web, email and social media content with the goal of driving more traffic to our digital assets and increasing awareness, donations, client referrals and training participants

 

Content/Editorial – develop and manage content calendar to ensure that the organization speaks with one voice to our donors, clients and community partners, while modifying the message for key target audiences

 

Collateral Development – develop materials to support key marketing efforts and fundraising events that reflect our brand’s best self and manage agencies and vendors appropriately

 

Fundraising – work closely with Development department to create annual donor communications plan,  collateral and marketing strategies to support our fundraising goals

 

Metrics Mentality – establish and meet annual measurable benchmarks across key areas of our portfolio (brand recognition, web traffic, email open rates, earned media, etc.) to help us grow

 

Event Marketing & Messaging Development –  work with annual gala and event committees and leadership to develop event program and messaging to represent our brand and diverse programs; oversee development of event collateral and social media campaign

 

Serve as a key leadership team member and an active participant in strategic decision making  

 

Manage organization’s Marketing Committee consisting of Board members, marketing professionals and community volunteers.

 

Responsible for the day-to-day management of the growing Marketing & Communications department which currently includes a Marketing & Communications Associate. This position also works in close collaboration with the Development department.

 

Monitor and report regularly on the progress of marketing efforts to CEO, Board of Directors and Marketing Committee

 

Serve on the Executive Management, Executive Leadership, and Senior Management Teams internally

 

All other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

5-7 years marketing experience in a non-profit organization Strong project management skills Excellent writing and editing skills Excellent oral communications Strong Collaborator – effectively works cross functionally to support program leadership with their needs Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and priorities Experience with event planning and promotion Strategic mindset to keep focus on core priorities Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, Google Analytics and Google AdWords   Media relations experience, helping clients secure positive earned media exposure Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical marketing initiatives Ability to work both independently without close oversight and be a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside of CHRIS 180 Bachelor’s degree required
