POSITION TITLE: Accounting Manager



JOB STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt


The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the organization’s general accounting activities.  Develops, implements and maintains accounting systems, policies and procedures.  Compiles and analyzes accounting data and prepares reports for the distribution to management and the Board of Directors.


  • Reconciles on a monthly basis all operating, petty cash and payroll accounts
  • Issues monthly financial statements by the 15th of the following month.  Reconciles all balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Prepares monthly and quarterly reports on government grants and funds
  • Prepares recurring financial reports including variances, projections and cash flow forecasts
  • Handles Accounts Payable function which includes vendor management, entering and processing checks twice a month
  • Completes and reconciles all credit card transactions
  • Deposits all checks, recording them in the cash log and enters to Financial Edge accounting system
  • Prepares biweekly Payroll thru ADP
  • Makes bimonthly payroll transfer and payroll journal entries
  • Completes all grant reports where applicable for foundations, government entities and other agencies
  • Prepares and administers Federal Indirect Cost Rate
  • Handles all financial aspects for annual fundraising gala
  • Coordinates year end annual audit with external auditing firm including single audit if necessary
  • Manages procedures for collecting, tracking, and reporting information necessary for tax preparation on Form 990
  • Prepares annual budget for review by Finance Committee and approval by the Board of Directors
  • Administers ADP benefits (401(k), FSA, and other employee benefits)
  • Prepares and oversees all grant budget proposals
  • Prepares and files annual workman’s compensation audits for insurance


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and/or equivalent in experience. Masters’ preferred
  • Four to six years of financial management experience preferably in nonprofit organizations Nonprofit accounting experience is required

Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiar with administrative and business procedures and generally accepted accounting procedures
  • Familiar with payroll tax deposit laws and requirements
  • Experience with general ledger and account analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain financial reports and controls
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment; seek guidance when necessary
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Creativity, initiative, productivity, self-direction and assertiveness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter; strong initiative; assertive
  • Handle information that is sensitive and confidential in nature
  • Excellent computer skills; knowledge of Financial Edge software a plus

Salary Range: 60’s – 70’s depending on experience
