Universities Relations Coordinator
of an international NGO (a bilingual part-time consultant in Atlanta)
IDEAS (The Institute for Development, Evaluation, Assistance and Solutions) is a 40 year-old small international non-profit that has worked on 4 continents. It has worked 3 decades in Latin America supporting community development, social enterprises, impact investing, training, research, and evaluation. IDEAS has a small office in metro Atlanta (Decatur, Georgia).
IDEAS is seeking a person who has both programmatic and administrative skills. This person will assist the mission to educate low and moderate income students and professionals in Central America as they learn with their peers in North America. The part-time consultant will help IDEAS to continue being a catalyst that has helped create new programs of learning inside and outside universities on three continents. During the past years, IDEAS has created and taught courses in various universities in the US and Central America. The consultant will expand the number of venues for both for-credit academic and vocational education.
University Coordination: Must be able to do academic outreach in a professional manner to universities in the US and Latin America in order to facilitate their working together.
Services of the new person will include: writing short documents and an email newsletter; editing course materials, articles & e-books; researching funders and writing proposals; a small amount of blogging & social media; supporting educational and entrepreneurial programs in Central America, and some administration.
These services will help IDEAS’ associates who are teaching both graduate students and professionals to create new in-demand courses and expand current curriculum in 14 courses in English and Spanish. The person will extend the outreach to many new learners by sharing materials and developing additional learning in online formats as well as face-to-face learning. Part of the created educational resources will be developed into articles, e-books, blog posts and distance learning.
Languages: The candidate should have an ability to work at a professional level in both Spanish and English. Will write and talk in Spanish with non-English speaking professionals. The work with universities in North America must be done with a very high proficiency in English.
Computer skills: Microsoft Office PC suite skills (at least Word, Excel & Outlook) are required. Preference is for candidates that have WordPress skills to update IDEAS’ two bilingual websites. Desired computer skills include QuickBooks and ability to quickly learn other programs like MailChimp, blogging & some social media. Useful computer skills include online academic course software, infographics and some video editing. If person does not have all these computer skills, may need to supervise consultants.
Flexible Hours & compensation: Job of this independent contractor is about 60 to 80 hours per month with very flexible hours. Compensation will be negotiated in line with the person’s relevant experience and the limitations of the non-profit.
Locations including remote work: Person will come once or twice a week to the office (on the third floor without an elevator). Office is a short bus ride to MARTA train. Most of the work will be done remotely so this independent consultant needs to have own work space, computer, internet, etc. (The remote aspect of the work would permit a person to perform the position’s duties while occasionally traveling outside of Atlanta).
Degree & experience: Should have a MA in the social sciences (or similar studies). Experience in graduate level university teaching or administration would be ideal. Should have worked and/ or traveled in various countries. Experience with non-profits working in community development, evaluation and in other countries is a major plus since IDEAS does this type of work. Entrepreneurial skills and social enterprise experience are very welcome as IDEAS has a strong concentration in these.
