Director of Communications (Reposted to clarify position requirements)

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Communications works in conjunction with the Senior Executive Staff, and is responsible for the planning, creation, and execution of the marketing, public relations, communications, and advocacy strategy of the organization.
Plan, create, and execute the delivery of all fundraising appeals, communications, and collateral materials from the organization.
Plan, create, and execute a public relations strategy including, but not limited to; placement of press releases, obtaining print and other media coverage of agency programs and events, and scheduling speaking engagement bookings for agency representatives.
Working with the CEO and Board of Directors, lead the advocacy efforts of the agency at the State and National level.
Documented experience in an advocacy role at the Georgia State Capital a must; experience in an advocacy role at the national level in Washington, DC a plus.
Documented experience in working with and directing creative staff in developing 'snail mail' and electronic media communications (newsletters, etc.), fundraising appeals, and other collateral materials.
Documented experience creating and executing social media strategy and tactical plans.
Documented experience in creating, executing, monitoring, measuring, and using measurement feedback to adjust as necessary a communications plan for the agency covering all elements of print and media.
Documented experience in engaging and informing the press about agency events, accomplishments, advocacy positions, and other announcements.
Documented experience finding and 'booking' agency leadership in speaking roles at community and civic organizations so as to spread the message about the mission of the organization.
Ability to work nights and weekends occasionally as required.
OUTSTANDING WRITING SKILLS.
CREATIVITY is a MUST. (Note: graphic design skills are not a requirement, but the ability to critically and creatively manage outsourced graphic design resources are required)

It is important to note that this position will be a leadership and strategic role but will require that the incumbent be a hands-on 'doer' who can execute as well as manage. This position has no direct reports.
