The San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) invites applications for the position of Senior Director of Development. This fundraising leader will report to and work closely with the Seminary President and as a member of the Advancement Team to further philanthropic giving through the planning and execution of a best practice major gift program.
Reporting to the President of STFS, the Senior Director of Development joins an Advancement Team that currently includes 2 full-time (including the Senior Director) and 4 part-time team members. The Senior Director of Development is responsible for executing a fundraising plan that is consistent with the Seminary’s strategic plan and furthers the Seminary’s outreach to its constituencies. The Senior Director of Development shall be primarily focused on identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts and grants. The Senior Director also will participate in departmental planning and may have the opportunity to grow into departmental leadership in the future.
The successful candidate will have at least five (5) years of progressively responsible development and successful major gift philanthropic experience. He or she will display a passion for the mission of the San Francisco Theological Seminary and be a capable communicator of that mission. Experience working in an education and/or faith-based setting is a plus. We seek a leader who enjoys working toward goals with colleagues and is team-oriented, outgoing, proactive, enthusiastic, emotionally-intelligent, and self-motivated. A Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or similar degrees that foster advancement and relational skills is required. Graduate or terminal degrees are not required, but are preferred. At least five (5) years of advancement experience with progressively responsible major gift fundraising is preferred. Candidates must display a proven track record of soliciting and closing gifts in the five-and six-figure range. The ability to work effectively in a team setting, and with many diverse constituencies in an educational or faith-based environment is preferred.
Salary and benefits for this position are competitive and commensurate with experience. Some travel is required.
