Founded in 2016, Justice Catalyst Law is new, lean, and agile. We take on social justice issues that fall between the cracks of traditional advocacy models, connect lawyers and advocates with diverse specialties, and apply a cross-disciplinary, problem-centric approach to the law. For example, in Crain v. Accredited Surety & Bond, we worked with a private firm and other nonprofit organizations to bring an antitrust lawsuit against California bail bonds companies and insurers for fixing bond prices. Our other matters involve areas as diverse as worker’s rights, consumer debt, civil rights, foreclosure protection, consumer protection, and prisoners’ rights. This broad range reflects our approach: instead of focusing on enforcing a narrow area of law, we first try to understand the injustice, then build a team that can draw on all of the areas of law necessary to address it, with an eye toward activating underused laws and legal theories.
