Students Making a Change

About Students Making a Change

Founded in 2010, Students Making a Change is a student-led, multi-racial organizing project which aims to close the achievement gap in California Community Colleges and increase retention and transfer rates for underrepresented student populations (with a focus on African American, Latino, Pacific Islander and Filipino students).

Students Making a Change is a unique organization that works to change the conditions and outcomes for a forgotten members of our community – high school graduates heading to community college for their advanced certificates and degrees. Student leadership, advocacy and organizing are the most effective ways to bring about equity for Black and Brown students in community colleges. Through partnership with accountable faculty and staff, SMAC has been able to create the conditions for success for all students.
