The Individual Giving Officer is responsible for an annual contributed revenue goal for individuals through stewardship, cultivation, and direct solicitation.  This includes the identification of new donors and the cultivation of existing donors. The Individual Giving Officer shares responsibility for the achievement of overall departmental goals and is an integral member of the fundraising team; with an emphasis on direct donor contact and relationship building.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Solicit and secure gifts $2,500 to $10,000 and above for unrestricted and restricted purposes
  • Work closely with the Annual Fund manager and Director of Business Operations to create and implement strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, and acquire new donors
  • Renew and upgrade annual donors
  • Initiate contact and secure face-to-face cultivation and solicitation meetings with donors and prospects
  • Continuously manage and update portfolio activity in the Tessitura donor database
  • Draft donor solicitations and correspondence
  • General Development Project Management oversight
  • Provide a reasonable and timely schedule for pledges and payments for assigned donors

COMPETENCIES

  • A proven track record of measurable success in securing gifts in fundraising
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising approaches, and the highest levels of interpersonal skills
  • Skills in relationship building, communications, prioritizing, negotiation and influencing, self-motivation, and possess temperament to work with all organizational levels
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of discretion and integrity
  • Familiarity with the Atlanta fundraising landscape and arts community preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; polished presentation skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of direct solicitation experience with demonstrated success in achieving and exceeding organizational goals
  • Experience with relational databases, such as Tessitura or Raiser’s Edge, preferred
  • Conversant knowledge of Opera preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Evening and weekend obligations during the opera season, including donor cultivation events and show performances
  • Ability to sit at a desk for up to and over eight hours per day
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner
