The Director of Leadership Gifts oversees and supervises activities focused on securing gifts of $1,500 and above from individuals for KQED under portfolio management.  That includes direct supervision of the Director of Individual Major Gifts, San Francisco Region, Director of Individual Major Gifts, South Bay Region, Director of Individual Major Gifts, Peninsula Region, Associate Director of Individual Major Gifts for the East Bay. 

The Director also maintains a personal portfolio of up to 100 donors who are among KQED’s most significant individual supporters with a focus on annual asks of $10,000 or more. This position averages approximately 8 visits each month meeting face-to-face with current and prospective donors, as well as volunteers. Provides direction and support to the President and CEO, Vice President, Development, Senior Director and key volunteers in cultivating and soliciting gifts for unrestricted funding as well as assigned projects/topic areas.  Assumes lead responsibility to create and implement strategies to cultivate, solicit and steward gifts to Campaign 21 from donors in their portfolio in collaboration with the Senior Director, Director, Campaign 21 and  Vice President, Development and President.

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates and solicits major donor prospects in own portfolio of up to 100 individuals, alone, and in consultation with other key volunteers and staff when necessary and appropriate.  For assigned prospects, prioritizes prospects, researches their interests and capacity, and identifies individualized strategy for solicitation and follow-up. Specifically, develops written strategies when relevant for review and consultation with the Senior Director; coordinates nature of contacts that assigned prospects receive; facilitates relationships between potential and current donors and KQED’s senior staff, board members, volunteers and others; reviews prospect strategies regularly for refinement and interprets KQED’s annual and project needs for donors and prospects to seek support. [30 %]
  • Provides leadership, motivation, and professional guidance to staff directly and indirectly.  Directly supervises, Director of Individual Major Gifts, San Francisco Region, Director of Individual Major Gifts, South Bay, Director of Individual Major Gifts, Peninsula Region, and Associate Director of Individual Major Gifts East Bay. [30%]
  • Develop, implement and adjust (over time) cultivation and solicitation plans for prospects for Campaign 21 with a focus on individuals who have the capacity to make six and seven figure gifts in the their portfolio.  Working closely with the Senior Director, Leadership Gifts, Director, Campaign 21, Vice President, Development and President, to ensure the highest possible campaign gift from these donors. The Director also ensures that all Directors of Individual Major Gifts develop, implement and adjust cultivation and solicitation plans for Campaign 21 prospects in their portfolios. [20%]
  • This position will provide direct staff support to up to three fundraising volunteers – which may include Board members and non-Board fundraising volunteers.  The Director participates in identifying, recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to serve as team members in the cultivation and solicitation of prospects.  Develops mechanisms to keep assigned volunteers informed and motivated.  In conjunction with Senior Director, directs and oversees the activities of the Major Gifts Committee of the Board. [10%]
  • Oversees and provides guidance to the development and implementation of annual business plans and budgets for individual giving under portfolio management.  These business plans will be included in the overall development plan for Leadership Gift to ensure successful cultivation and solicitation of KQED’s most significant donors. [5%]
