The Center for Popular Democracy & CPD Action (CPD/A) promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 50 partner organizations in more than 38 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C., and build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. CPD/A partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:

CPD/A is seeking a Senior Advisor for Racial Equity. The Director will drive and support a broad portfolio of priority Racial Equity initiatives for the CPD/A Network. This  person will serve on CPD's Senior Leadership Team, and this position will require significant field experience and a demonstrated capacity to understand and navigate a wide range of movement spaces. This position requires high-level relationship building capacity - at all levels (with national staff, network and the broader social justice movement). This position will help CPD/A, and our affiliates, to articulate and realize a bold and multi-faceted racial equity agenda. Supervision and fundraising experience are required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work Closely with CPD's Base-building/Capacity building team to structure and support a range of affiliate cohorts to support affiliate leadership and engagement, and to build community and alignment across the network.
  • Support CPD Staff and Affiliate Staff Leaders (through coaching and other engagement)
  • Explore ways to support innovation and evolution of the CPD/A Network' s organizing work (including engagement with faith and Faith Organizing and POC LGBTQIA organizing)
  • Fundraising
  • Leadership within the Network and CPD
  • Lead manager for CPD’s DEI work (lead cross-team team and supervise a senior staffer charged with DEI work (within the staff and broader network)
  • Participate in CPD's Senior Leadership Team
  • Play a public leadership role for CPD/A in strategic spaces
  • Build and maintain relationships with key movement and statewide allies and leaders

Requirements for the position include:

  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice, and a sophisticated analysis of racial justice as an imperative for a successful economic justice agenda
  • A commitment to building people’s institutions as a core element of building power
  • Minimum 10 years working in a worker or grassroots community organizing context
  • Minimum 10 years experience running and winning complex, multi-jurisdictional issue or organizing campaigns
  • Minimum 10 years experience managing large teams and complex projects or initiatives
  • Significant foundation, individual donor, and other fundraising experience
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, email-heavy environment with staff from diverse backgrounds, working in varied issues with varied types of expertise, and spread across the country
  • Ability to  travel preferred
