JOB SUMMARY
The Major Gifts & Planned Giving Manager for Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta reports directly to the Chief Development Officer. He/she is responsible for the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of major and planned gifts. He/she is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive plan to attract new individual donors, retain existing donors as well as increase current donors’ support for and engagement with the Council.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identifies and secures major gifts of $1,000+, generating $460,000 annually from individual donors
- Manages all aspects of the Second Century Circle and 1912 Society for individual donors
- Identifies and cultivates new relationships with prospects and donors, manages prospect research, donor correspondence, the acknowledgement process and ongoing stewardship of donors;
- Develops and maintains a major gifts portfolio of 200+ gift prospects;
- Understands and matches the needs and objectives of prospective donors with the fundraising goals of the Council;
- Works and interacts with program staff and participate in special events with a focus on and promotion of major gifts;
- Develops and participates in solicitation visits;
- Writes/edits proposals for presentations to major donors;
- Develops and participates in a system of prospect identification and evaluation;
- Provides monthly revenue and expense projections to the Chief Development Officer;
- Assesses the success of each fundraising activity; creates new fundraising strategies and vehicles – or adjusts current activities – to ensure continued growth in fundraising;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (nonprofit management, marketing, business, journalism, etc.)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management role with focus on Individual and Major Gifts.
- Ability to solve problems and to think strategically and tactically about opportunities to raise funds, balance competing priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues
- Write in a creative, descriptive, technical or factual manner.
- Good pubic speaking skills.
- Develop project budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Organized and good with follow-up
- Lead by example with a “can-do” work ethic, a true go-getter
- Manages up with ease
- Highly professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers, and professional consultants
- High levels of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor are necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple priorities, and work in a deadline driven environment
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge database management software preferred.
- Required attendance at events as necessary in support of the Council’s mission
- Other duties as assigned
