Black Pine Circle School is an independent K–8 School in Berkeley, California, dedicated to educating students in Socratic and critical thinking strategies. Student curiosity and thoughtful questioning are central to all we believe. For over 45 years, BPC has been inspiring students for lifelong learning through a wonderful combination of an arts and academic curriculum. We are currently seeking an upper school math teacher (6th–8th grades). Qualified applicants should have a B.S. or higher, a passion for mathematics, at least four years of experience in education, experience with multicultural education, and excellent teaching, writing, and communication skills.

Position Specifics:

Reports to: Head of Upper School

Our upper school math teacher is responsible for three periods each day of instruction, along with a few periods a week of advisory. Areas of emphasis will include assistance in coordination of upper school math curricular scope and sequence, project work with our science teachers and technology teacher, and all members of the upper school team.

Specific Tasks Include:

  • Direct instruction (classtime with students)
  • Curricular design (course scope and sequence)
  • Advising
  • Report card and progress report writing for up to 22 students in three sections
  • Assisting students with diverse learning profiles
  • Working with BPC’s upper school faculty (Wednesday faculty meetings)
  • Parent communication via email and phone, and parent-teacher conferences
