The Capital Campaign Director will be responsible for leadership and day-to-day planning and execution of the San Francisco – Marin Food Bank’s Capital Campaign. The Director will manage all components of a building campaign, both strategic and tactical, from the quiet phase through the launch and implementation of the public phase. The role entails working collaboratively with the Campaign Consultant, Food Bank leadership, the Board of Directors, and the Capital Campaign Cabinet. The position reports to the Vice President of Development and oversees priorities to ensure that the top $1M+ campaign solicitations are researched, prepared and completed in a timely fashion.  The Director also works closely with Leadership Gifts to ensure a robust pipeline and strategic cultivation of major gift prospects for the campaign.  This position is an ideal opportunity for a high-performing, collaborative, and experienced fundraiser and development leader to build on the momentum of San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s planning for its upcoming building expansion. The position requires travel throughout San Francisco and Marin counties.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Campaign Fundraising Leadership (75%)

  • Work with the Executive Director, Vice President of Development, Campaign Cabinet and fundraising counsel to implement strategic direction of the campaign
  • Directly manage a portfolio of principal and major donors, building and maintaining relationships to implement solicitation of donors for gifts that reach their full philanthropic capacity and inclination
  • Manage campaign volunteer engagement by staffing Campaign Cabinet members throughout engagement of their networks, organizing regular Campaign Cabinet and steering committee meetings, and conducting proactive follow-up
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and  Executive Administrators to schedule leadership visits with donors in a timely and respectful manner, ensuring campaign momentum is sustained
  • Organize the pipeline of individual, foundation, and corporate campaign prospects, qualifying new prospects through methods such as in person visits, as well as internal data screening and analysis of giving capacity and philanthropic intent.
  • Oversee development of  prospect research, prepare briefing memos, remarks, letters, proposals, or other preparatory materials to support campaign prospect engagements

Campaign Planning (15%)

  • Work together with Leadership Gifts team on joint cultivation strategies for donors in their portfolios, preparation for donor visits, and all necessary follow-up
  • Refine and update the Campaign Case for Support as needed and oversee the creation of campaign print and digital communication tools
  • Lead a strategic plan for future rollout of the Public Phase, including an integrated campaign communications plan
  • Oversee strategy and execution of events for donor cultivation and public launch
  • Determine gift naming and recognition opportunities

Administration (10%)

  • Ensure thorough documentation of all campaign meetings and moves
  • Manage campaign activity tracking in Raiser’s Edge, weekly progress reports, and campaign gift tracking and analysis for development staff and Board of Directors
  • Manage campaign expense budget and expenditures

YOU MIGHT BE A PERFECT FIT IF:

  • You have strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and experience creating and fostering excellent relationships with high-value donors
  • You can motivate and work effectively with prominent volunteers and Directors
  • You have led a capital campaign or worked on a campaign team
  • You have a minimum of six years fundraising experience, with a solid track record in major and principal gifts
  • You have superior written and oral communication skills and are proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint
  • You have strong integrity, self-motivation, and are able to work independently
  • You have a demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple, competing deadlines
  • You love the challenge of developing individualized strategies for donors
  • You have a working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge
  • You have a willingness to travel locally, and you are available to work occasional nights and weekends
